Canon Point: The very end of the game, after defeating the true final boss and restoring peace to the world.
Canon Information
Personality: Sylvando is outgoing and flamboyant to the point of being silly at times, knows this, and chooses to be so. He is, if nothing else, extremely comfortable in his own skin and is confident to the point of sometimes coming off as condescending. But it's also obvious that he has a good heart, and is always willing to lend a hand to help those in need be it by fighting off a monster or just lifting someone's spirits.
And he's not just good at doing the latter; he loves it. His one true desire in life is to bring joy and laughter to as many people as possible, and this desire informs everything he does. In the intervening time between the game's first two acts, he gathered a crew of sweet, soft young men and took them under his wing as entertainers to help him in his mission to restore smiles to the world. He even rejoined the fight against the Lord of Shadows in part due to the fact that Mordegon's efforts in making people's lives miserable made his vow to to bring joy and laughter impossible to fulfill.
But though Sylvando excels at charm and wit, he seldom opens up about his past before taking to the stage, dancing around it with all the skill of a performer. This is in part because he wanted to shed the expectations that came along with being the son of the great Don Rodrigo and forge his own identity, and partly due to the fact that for a long time he worried that his father was ashamed of him for choosing to abandon his knightly career in favor of the life of an entertainer. He's since reconciled with his father- twice; time travel is weird like that-, and his past was revealed to his friends (and the player) at the same time, though he still doesn't voluntarily tell others who don't know.
Sylvando is both an unconventional knight in the guise of a simple jester and an entertainer with a flair for combat. Flashy and fun, as well as clever and kindhearted. Comfortable in whatever role he chooses to take, he's sure to bring his own special flair to the game. New York is about to get a lot more fabulous.
CR-AU: N/A
Physical description: Sylvando is physically fit with slender yet muscular tones. He has black, shoulder length hair which is slicked back, thin eyebrows, grey eyes, and small silver studs on both ears. Sylvando wears a black and white striped jester's tunic over a red, long-sleeved shirt along with tan tights, purple shoes, and a leather belt worn around the waist. Sylvando also carries a long flute.
Meta Powers Sylvando trained from a very young age to be a knight and it shows in combat. He can wield swords, knives/daggers, and whips with equal ease. With the former two, he can also equip and use a shield, though wielding a whip requires both hands. He's been shown to be an extremely capable horseman, and is also capable of steering a full sized sailing ship with reasonable skill, even in adverse weather conditions. He knows the Knight's Pledge by heart and lives by his own interpretation of it.
He has a number of unique and useful skills and spells, some that deal damage, some that inflict status effects such as confusion or paralysis, and some that do both. He also has a line of unique regenerative healing spells and a very useful move called Hustle Dance which heals a good amount of HP to the whole party, and one called Sobering Slap which can remove several different status effects from a single party member without dealing damage. It would honestly take way too long to list off every spell and ability an RPG character like Sylvando can do, so here's a handy list of Sylvando's combat skills and spells.
He can also team up with other party members to perform special combo moves while 'Pepped Up'. How the Pep mechanic works is that after fighting for a certain amount of time, the character has a chance of entering a highly energized state; they become surrounded by an aura of glowing blue energy and gain boosts to several stats for a few turns until the effect wears off. In Sylvando's case, the stats boosted are Strength, Evasion, and Charm. Depending on which members of the party are in battle and Pepped Up, a wide variety of combo moves can be executed, though doing so ends the 'Pepped Up' state for the character(s) involved. Again, there are far too many 'Pep Powers' in the game to list here, so here's another handy link that lists them. However, as the only other character from Dragon Quest XI currently in game is Eleven/the Luminary, the ones he and Sylvando would eventually be able to access are Tempered Tantrum, Snooze 'n' Bruise, Joltin' Juggler, The Fight Fantastic, Hit Parade, and Love Hurts.
Sylvando is just as versatile on the stage as he is on the battlefield. Clever, agile, and near constantly upbeat, he's trained in many different performing arts. He's a skilled stage magician, dancer, acrobat, and juggler and also plays a type of large flute. He's also skilled at the more ephemeral art of engaging an audience and holding their attention throughout a performance, knowing how to structure his routines to suit the crowd he'll be playing to.
And he's naturally charming and good with people. Comfortable leading and following, working with other or working alone, he's as flexible in this capacity as he is physically. The fact that the effectiveness of many of his more unique abilities in game is determined in part by his Charm stat demonstrated how important an aspect of his character it is.

Earth AU
Earth AU Age: 31
History: Emberto was born in Valencia, Spain, the son of Rodolfo and Sylvia Rodrigo. Rodolfo was and is CEO and primary shareholder of Paladin Security, a private security company that provides both body guards and similar security people to the rich and famous and- in more recent years- a variety of mass-market electronic security measures as well. Both sides of the Valencia-based company are well known throughout Europe, though in the US, most people would only know of the electronic security branch, likely through seeing its logo of an armored knight standing at attention on the entrances to various businesses that use their security products.
Sylvia Rodrigo, on the other hand, was an opera singer. She was well known in Spain and somewhat throughout the rest of Europe, though only passionate opera fans would likely know much of her outside of Europe. She was also somewhat of a philanthropist donating a significant amount of money to a variety of children's charities and arts-based programs, as well as participating in several benefit performances for similar causes. Tragically, she died in a car accident when Emberto was only six; he has very few clear memories of her as a result, though he grew up seeing photos and videos of her, particularly her performances.
As a result of his mother's untimely death, Emberto was raised primarily by his stern but attentive father, as well as a succession of several nannies and au pairs. He developed an interest in music and performance from a young age, learning to play the dulzaina- an oboe-like instrument native to Spain- and participated in various drama clubs and classes at school. However, it was always assumed that he would follow his father and one day take over the business from him, so much of his education- both in school and through private lessons- was geared toward that end. He learned English and a few other languages, and took courses meant to develop his business savvy and leadership skills.
After graduating from high school, Emberto began looking into various colleges both in Spain and abroad, and even accompanying his father on several business trips. It was on one such trip to New York, that Emberto attended a production of Phantom of the Opera at the famous Majestic Theater, a performance that would change the course of his life. As he watched that performance, with all the drama and grandeur of Broadway, Emberto came to realize that his true passion lay not in the business world, but with the arts, with theater, music, song, and dance. One could say it was love at first sight.
Upon his return to Spain, he immediately applied to a number of performing arts-based schools. When he announced his intentions for his new career path to his father, however, Rodolfo was less than pleased. A furious argument ensued, after which Emberto stormed out, determined to prove to his father that he was not only serious about his new career, but could make a success of it. He packed his bags and left that very night, apparently never to return.
It wasn't long after that that he was accepted into The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City, moving there on a student visa in order to attend. By the time of his graduation three years later- in the same theater where he'd seen that fateful performance- he'd acquired a new last name: Alegre, meaning 'joyful' and was working on acquiring his US citizenship.
Over first few years after his graduation, he worked with several New York-based theater companies, performing in and helping to produce a number of of shows, both on and off Broadway. Desiring a bit more autonomy though, after a number of inquiries, he wound up taking over management of a flagging off Broadway theater and its resident troupe. With a combination of his business savvy education and passion for the arts, both the theater and the troupe were quickly reinvigorated. The theater was rechristened as the 'Brava' and its troupe as 'The Soldiers of Smile', with a stated mission of 'bringing the light and joy of the theater to every corner of an increasingly drab world'.
To this end, Emberto is active in his community, supporting a number of local arts programs and renting out the theater space to a variety of youth theater and music groups for performances. He's also active in New York's LGBTQ+ community, both supporting its local artists in a variety of ways, as well as working to foster support and understanding for its people, particularly LGBTQ+ youth. The theater and the troupe have also become known for their willingness to give anyone a chance, resulting in a rather eclectic and sometimes eccentric bunch of personalities populating it. But really, the theater's owner and manager wouldn't have it any other way.
Personality: Emberto shares many basic personality traits with his counterpart, the most obvious of which is his exuberance and flamboyance. Near constantly upbeat and cheerful, he'll often attempt to brighten up a boring situation or cheer up a person who seems down. And he makes no attempt to hide his often effeminate mannerisms or style, fully embracing his own gender and sexual identities and encouraging others to do the same.
Also like Sylvando, he has a very strong set of morals despite his apparently carefree nature. He'll happily flirt with any adult who's not obviously attached, but will always respect someones limits if they seem uncomfortable. He won't abide bullying or abuse of power in any form, and will often step in directly to put a top to it where possible. He always strives to treat those he interacts with justly and fairly, and he values honestly and integrity, including honesty to oneself.
Though this last aspect of his personality sometimes makes him feel somewhat hypocritical, as he himself is seldom entirely honest with others about his past, being fairly evasive when asked about details of his family life growing up. This isn't out of a desire to deceive, but out of a combination of a desire to forge his own identity and a sense of deep regret. While he doesn't regret his decision to pursue a career in the theater, he does regret how he parted from his father, and the fact that he hasn't had the courage to contact him since. He fears that his father is ashamed of him, and that that bridge has been burnt beyond repair.
Nonetheless, he'll always be someone who tries to spread the gospel of freedom, fun, and fabulousness wherever he goes, and make everyone's day a little brighter. He may act a bit foolish at times, but an act is all it is. He's confident, clever, kind, and a natural leader, though he's also willing to defer to others if their particular expertise is better suited to a situation. While he can come off as a bit condescending at times to people who don't know him, he's still generally a great guy to hang out with.
Physical description: The same as canon, with the obvious exception of wearing modern clothing.
Your Characters 'Event Memory'? Sylvando about to join up with the party. Memory segment will be from about 0:25-0:45 in the video.
Anything else? He tends to call people things like 'darling' or 'honey' a lot, even people he doesn't like.
